Andre Dawkins coming into the program a year early might be just what the doctor ordered. Duke was in need of another ball handler and depending on how well of a pre-season he has and how quickly he adjusts to the scheme, he may be the explosive scorer Duke needs. Freshmen aren’t always going to be able to contribute, but really with the veterans on this team Andre just has to play solidly and be able to spell Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith. With Dawkins Duke has a few more options on the offensive end. Andre already comes in as a better pure shooter than Elliot Williams and just as much athleticism and will have the benefit practicing against veteran guards in Jon and Nolan, and also Seth Curry, an ideal situation for a rookie guard. The ACC will be a tough proving ground but I’m sure just like with Elliot Williams we will see solid play with flashes of brilliance.
