Huge Month for Duke Basketball So Far

By August 15, 2017No Comments

Needless to say Coach K and company have had quite the busy off-season and even more so a busy month and it’s only the Ides of August. Duke was busy offering:

  • Vernon Carey, the top ranked player in the class of 2019 at 6’9, 245lbs out of FL who has offers from Miami, Connecticut, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Arizona,Baylor, Kansas and Kentucky
  • Armando Bacot (class of 2019, 6’9 power forward out of VA)
  • Nassir Little (class of 2018 6’7 small forward out of FL) whom the next day listed Duke in his top 5 along with Arizona, Miami, UNC and Georgia Tech.

In addition to the offers Duke cancelled it’s much talked about trip to the Dominican Republic as Coach K underwent knee replacement surgery. Unfortunate for fans looking forward to basketball in August but a healthy and mobile Coach K obviously is much more crucial to a good season.

Then this week Duke received a commitment from the top point guard in the 2018 class, Tre Jones (brother of National Champion Tyus Jones). Jones is the first commit for Duke in the class and could open the 2018 flood gates as many players in the class have expressed an interest in playing alongside Tre.

Then, last night Duke solidified and finalized the 2017 class with a reclassification and commitment from the top player in the 2018 and now the 2017 class Marvin Bagley – Bagley’s reputation is well-known and it will be a very interesting story to follow as he works on getting himself ready and eligible as well as how he will fit with this year’s squad.
